Music Mondays – Jen

On Mondays, we’ll bring you great tunes from the uforia family. The songs are linked to Spotify, so just click and rock out!

Jen WitteThis week, our newest Revolutions Rockstar, Jen, shares some of her favorite tunes to help beat the Monday blues. If anyone knows how to start Monday off right, it’s Jen. She rocks the Underground at 6:15 on Monday and Wednesday mornings with great moves, awesome music that “makes you want to wiggle“, and a serious dose of positivity. We know it’s early, but we promise, getting out of bed for her class is so worth it.

Cali Swag District – Teach Me How to Dougie (Clean Version): I love this song because you have two ways to boogie – work the slow beat or shake it to the double-time.  A sexy song with a beat the never gets old.  Total oldie but goodie!

Michael Jackson – Black or White and Michael Jackson – They Don’t Care About Us – Remastered Version: You can never go wrong with Michael’s smooth beats! “Black or White” has a lighter and ‘boppy’ feel to it that always puts a smile on my face when I rock out to it. “They Don’t Care About Us” gets more serious in both lyrics and beat.  It is a complex song, which keeps it interesting, while still maintaining that sprinkling of smoothness and soul you count on from MJ.  Plus, I always appreciate when the lyrics of a song have some substance to them.

Kid Cudi – Alive (nightmare) and Sbtrkt – Wildfire (feat. Little Dragon): If I have had a hard day a work and leave with a furrowed brow or just have a lot on my mind, these two songs are ones I can get lost in.  On the bike they are great to zone-out to and help give me a good brain scrub to clear away the day. They are kind of dark and maybe a pinch weird, but they have a smoothness to them in both the beat and the vocals that helps wash away the day.
Bruno Mars – Treasure – Audien Radio Edit: I just LOVE Bruno Mars!  He is such a pleasant blend of pop, retro soul and beautiful vocals with sweet and fun lyrics.  I totally belt out some of his other songs in the shower (like “When I Was Your Man”) but this song in its standard version is perfect happy jam for a weekend drive with your honey – windows down, breeze in your hair and feet tappin’ on the dashboard.  This remixed version takes it up a notch, allowing me to bring the fun energy into the Underground – great at the beginning for some of the first sprints of the class.
Vanessa Da Mata – Boa Sorte: I spent a summer in Brazil two years ago and feel in love with this artist.  Her smooth and soulful vocals sucked me in immediately and always take me to a calm and relaxing place.  This song with her and Ben Harper is my favorite for a cool down, stretch or some quick yoga moves before bed.
