All About us: Karen

Hip Hop Club Rockstar Karen tells us all about how she got into dance, the songs she’s playing on repeat, & her favorite place for authentic Japanese cuisine.

karen-uforia-instructorMeet Karen:

I first started dancing in middle school by teaching myself choreography from Kpop music videos. I also added jazz and ballet classes from time to time but didn’t get serious about dance until college. I joined the MIT DanceTroupe and fell in love with learning and performing as part of a hip hop crew! I’m stoked to find my new crew at uforia!

Favorite Local Hot Spots?

My favorite Palo Alto food spot is a Japanese restaurant called Yayoi! You can get a delicious, authentic set meal there for a great price. NOLA is also a fun place to get drinks.

What do you do in your spare time?

When I’m not working out at uforia, I love to get my sweat on in pole dancing classes (have you tried it yet?!) and yoga. At home, you can usually find me playing with my cat, reading on my Kindle, or watching a new TV show. Also if you’re into electronic music, let me know! I’m constantly going to music shows in the city or going to music festivals.

Where do you find your uforia?

I find my uforia in shared connections and successes with others. I’m happiest when I help others be happy and know I’ve made a positive impact in their lives.

What are your favorite pre/post workout snacks?

Nothing tastes better to me pre or post workout than a bottle of Harmless Harvest coconut water!

Favorite Song At The Moment?

Listen to Zhu’s album Generationwhy. You won’t regret it 🙂

Anything else you want to share with our uforians?

I’m still fairly new to California and would love to meet more of the uforia community! Don’t be a stranger and please come say hi before or after class!
