We’re so excited to welcome new Hip Hop Club Rockstar Devi! All the way from Augusta, Georgia, Devi studied theater, dance, and movement throughout college. Her background in performance and a love for strengthening her body from years of hitting the gym, fostered a love of dancing that you’ll feel on the dance floor. Come #embracethesweat with Devi and read on for her favorite health food tips and Nob Hill Hawaiian dining recommendations!
Favorite local Hot Spots?
Have you been to Liholiho Yacht Club in Lower Nob Hill. It’s a Hawaiian dining experience that’s all about casual aloha vibes and absolutely top-notch culinary creations. It’s the perfect place to kick back and have a mind-blowing bite after a long day of…well, anything, but preferably dancing! If you go, definitely order the baked Hawaii for dessert. You can thank me later and, no worries, you’ll totally deserve it after shaking it, revving it, or getting gritty with us at uforia.
In Palo Alto, you can always find me at Philz Coffee. Why? Because caffeine!
What do you do in your spare time?
What spare time?! Just kidding 🙂
Seriously though, I’m trying to be more thoughtful with my time and trying to find more balance. In the time that I call my own, I like to journal, practice yoga, hike, meditate, color, collage, catch rays, read tarot, and procrastinate washing the dishes.
Where do you find your uforia?
On my yoga mat or on the dance floor. When I sync up breath with movement, my thoughts, commentary, judgments, and to-do lists fade into the background. I am one with bliss.
What are your favorite pre/post workout snacks?
Pre-workout – water! Ideally, I like to give myself two hours after eating before I work out. If I’m taking an early morning class and that isn’t possible, I’ll sometimes eat an apple or a banana. I also love hot tea with Maca powder and a little spoonful of Ghee in the morning before a workout. Never tried Ghee before? Come find me and I’ll give you the inside scoop on why it’s amazing!
Post-workout I often crave watermelon juice, sushi, Yes Cacao’s Karma mellowl botanical chocolate bar…the list could go on and on. I’m basically ravenous.
Favorite songs at the moment?
I’m really into what I call “relaxed dad” music at the moment…Steely Dan, Chicago, The Doobie Brothers, Eagles, Huey Lewis & the News. Aside from that, I have Toro y Moi’s latest album on repeat. I also love to move my body to “Glory Box” by Portishead.
I like to play music in class by diva artists who also have a tough, fierce side like Rihanna, Nicki Minaj, Beyoncé, Gwen Stefani, and Fergie. I’ll mix in a ton of “OMG I forgot about this song!” throwbacks and some gritty rap to keep us grounded.
Anything else you might want to share with our uforians?
I could not be more excited to join you all on the dance floor! I love working song requests into my playlists so come find me after class with questions, suggestions, and just to say hi!
