Name: Bruce Cala
Hometown: Belmont, CA
What is your other job outside teaching uCycle at Uforia?
General Manager of SiteOne Services, Inc.
So what made you want to pursue a second career in fitness?
I get the best of several worlds. It is an opportunity to get paid to work out, and I am afforded an opportunity to share my knowledge of training and fitness with others.
What makes your uCycle classes different from others?
My teaching style has been shaped by years of outdoor riding. If you can’t do it outdoors, it doesn’t belong indoors. I try to incorporate basic fundamentals of outdoor cycling with a fun, energetic and safe indoor profile. What’s your favorite song or musician?
I don’t have one favorite, however, when I need to draw motivation from a song I often turn to “Welcome to the Black Parade” by My Chemical Romance.
We hear you’re a pretty great spin teacher, so what is your favorite part of teaching spin and, specifically, spin at Uforia?
Watching the Uforiates push themselves harder and farther than they thought they could. Teaching new riders about specific training techniques and watching them “get it”, their ah-hah moments if you will.
How do you maintain a healthy lifestyle?
With the proper balance of work and fun.
We all need a little cheat-cheat from time to time, so what’s your favorite indulgence?
Love to play hard and not afraid to work hard. You get to know me, you get to know my favorite indulgence(s).
Three things that people may not know about you or would be surprised to learn about you?
1. I am a graduate of UCLA, with a degree in Economics
2. I am a 2001 Ironman Canada finisher
3. My father owned a wholesale bakery in San Francisco
If you had to describe yourself in one word, it would be: OLD
When you have a day off, we will most likely find you:
Unless you are my girlfriend, family, friend or my dog Reily, you probably won’t find me 🙂
What’s your favorite Uforia moment?
I have had so many, but the one that keeps recurring is when a new uCyclist tells me how much they enjoyed class, that they will definitely come back, AND THEY DO!
