One of the best parts of our job is getting to hear the amazing stories from our incredible clients. This week, we got to hear from Cait, a Revolutions regular who has spent the past year going through a major fitness transformation. She has lost over 50 pounds and has found a fresh new outlook on exercise and life. We’re so in awe of you, Cait! Thank you for sharing your story with us.
Tell us a bit about yourself! What brought you to the Bay Area?
I’m a 23-year-old history and book nerd who grew up in the Tech world, moving 12 times growing up. I like to call myself an “Internet Brat” instead of “Military Brat,” since my dad’s job in the industry moved my family around. When I was 16, my family moved to the Peninsula from New Jersey and I went to two years of high school in Hillsborough. After studying history at USC, I moved back to the area for my job.
We know you’ve undergone quite a fitness transformation recently. What has your fitness journey been like?
I’ve always been active, but I have also faced a lifelong struggle with my weight. When I was in Kindergarten, it was my ardent wish to be a cheerleader, but my father, desperate to toughen me up, immediately enrolled me in basketball, soccer, and little league. I played competitive basketball and volleyball through high school. While I was athletic growing up, I was also always the chunky girl who was a bit insecure and self-conscious. In high school, I developed an eating disorder that began to dominate my life. Since then, I’ve fluctuated in weight and health, going from healthy and fit to obese and depressed. About a year ago I woke up and was the unhealthiest I had ever been, I could barely get out of bed in the morning I was so depressed, and couldn’t remember the last time I’d laughed! I realized that it was time for a major change, and I immediately set to work. I began working out with a personal trainer 2-3 times a week, and making healthier choices in my diet. Since June, I’ve lost over 50 pounds and I’m finally me again. I’m happy, healthy, energetic, and even weirder…. excited to work out!
Amazing! How has uforia fit into your new healthy lifestyle?
Last fall, I met a completely inspiring woman who was also going through a huge lifestyle overhaul. She invited me to a Sunday Revolutions class, telling me that uforia was a place of no judgment and LOTS of fun. After one class with Erin, I was HOOKED!
uforia is so aptly named – you can’t help but leave the studio feeling euphoric. The staff is friendly, the facilities are clean, the classes are fun, and the instructors are experienced and nonjudgmental. But most importantly? The energy is ELECTRIC! There’s just nothing like walking into that studio with the concierge smiling from behind the desk, ready to jump into action to make a first-timer feel at home. Every instructor that I’ve had has made an effort to get to know my name, and they even remember it! It’s the little things that make you feel at home here.
That uforia energy really is special! What’s your favorite way to embrace the sweat?
Revolutions! Cycle, groove, dance, and move? Never thought I’d ever want to do ANY of those things…but I was SO wrong! I love all of the different instructors’ styles, but must admit that my personal favorite is Raquel on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. Any woman who can pull herself together enough to teach a 6:15 spinning class with so much energy and enthusiasm is my HERO.
We agree! Our Morning Warriors are awesome. After a tough class, what is your favorite way to refuel?
I like to keep it simple and make delicious chocolate protein shakes with raw spinach, berries, and bananas! YUM!
What do you do when you aren’t rocking out in the Underground?
I work in marketing at Simply Hired, helping job seekers and companies find one another. I love my job and I’m really passionate about the recruiting industry! I continue to workout with my personal trainer and I’m a voracious reader and could spend hours with a book in my hand. I also have two fantastic younger siblings (a 10-year-old sister and an 18-year-old brother) and I just love spending time with them.
What would you tell someone new to uforia?
Dive into uforia! Don’t just try out one class, try out a bunch! If Rev isn’t your style, what about Grit? Bliss is positively enlightening! Get a feel for all of the instructors and really try to become a part of the community. You will NOT regret it! Oh! And if you didn’t know that there are shower rooms for after morning classes… it’s pretty awesome.
